Suzanne is a qualified journalist with more than 20 years’ experience. She has written for many publications during this time, including: AMG Magazine, The New Internationalist, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Big Issue, The Review Independent Monthly, Building Australia, Boardwalk Magazine, Australian Property Investor, Hotel, Motel & Resort News amongst many others.
In addition to this, Suzanne also worked in Media Relations, Corporate Communications and taught Journalism/Writing in the Creative Industries at QUT in Brisbane. Suzanne has a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing from QUT and has a Master of Arts in Creative Writing at Macquarie University.
Suzanne’s short stories and poetry have been published in Compassion: A Creative Anthology, The Quarry Journal, Grapeshot Magazine, Studio Magazine, Time Off and Heretical magazines. Suzanne has finished writing a novel about women soldiers fighting in the war in Syria.
In 2006, Suzanne’s short story The Wall came 6th out of 300 entries in the Amazon Shorts, Short Story competition and in 2011 she received a Highly Commended Award from the Sunshine Coast Literary Association for her poem, Breathe.
Suzanne taught Academic English at UQ College in Brisbane for three years.
In 2017, Suzanne published Freedom Writing compiling her research, personal and others’ experiences with writing therapy, and her workshop exercises she wrote to introduce this to others. Suzanne experienced freedom through writing therapy many years ago and since then has been running workshops to assist people to access this freedom through writing therapy. Freedom Writing Journal is the second version of this book and includes meditations, quotes and questions to use journaling for personal internal and external health.
Suzanne has been writing a novel from 2015 and completed this in 2018. She received funding from Arts Queensland and Sunshine Coast Council to attend the New York Pitch Conference in September 2018 to build connections with publishers in the US. Her novel Where the Sun Rises is a story of courage, self sacrifice and laying down your life for your friend. It is told from the point of two Kurdish women who fought in Syria against ISIS and within a real battle that happened in 2014-15 where these women’s forces were victorious.
