Indigenous writer wins Miles Franklin Award

Hey guys, I was so pleased to see that Indigenous writer, Melissa Lucashenko, based in Brisbane won the prestigious Miles Franklin Award this year with her novel Too Much Lip. (I am related by marriage to Miles Franklin, with my late grandpa Reginald Franklin). This award is a major literary prize in Australia and awards the writer with $60,000.

It is so great to see another Indigenous writer winning this award – this is the third time. 🙂 So congratulations to this wonderful writer. I am interested to check out the book. If you want more information click on the ABC link below. 🙂

Go well, have a fab day! Suz

Manus refugee wins richest Australia’s Literary Prize

Hey guys,

I had to point out this amazing thing that has just happened in Australia. How amazing is this? Behrouz Boochani an Iranian Kurdish Journalist won Victoria’s richest literary award! He won $100,000 for his non fiction book that documents torturous experience of refugees on Manus Island. He wrote the book by texting Australia, to a translator via WhatsApp. How phenomenal. He wrote this book over years. He has won this award but is still denied from entering Australia. When will we stop this barbaric practice?
