Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a recent workshop I ran with the Pyjama Foundation. This is an amazing organisation that supports foster children by providing a volunteer per child. This organisation contacted me recently and asked me to train their volunteers so they can share expressive writing with their young people. 🙂 I was so excited about this as I have done some work with young people in this area but I wanted to move more into this.
So, I wanted to take the volunteers through some Expressive Writing exercises so they could experience the freedom from writing and then they could show their young people. 🙂
It was a lovely workshop with all of them saying they felt more released from their own stress and recent experiences.
“After the course, I felt calm and curious; there were some “a ha” moments where I could see some connections between past experiences and my feelings and behaviours in the present. Writing a letter to someone who had betrayed my trust felt liberating as well.
I would definitely recommend this course or Suzanne’s workshops to anyone. I appreciated Suzanne’s style of presentation, the gentle pace, and her sharing her personal experiences related to using writing for therapy.”
Lois, The Pyjama Foundation
These ladies are the most lovely, giving women – they give of their time every week to care for their young person and either do homework with them or teach them to cook, or drive. So, they are the most dedicated and special people.
It was so lovely to see them also gaining the benefit from using expressive writing. What a beautiful workshop!
I also provided the volunteers with a Toolkit: 7 Expressive Writing Exercises they can share with their young person, and suggest different exercises at relevant times.
I would love to do more with organisations such as the Pyjama Foundation and also I should mention I am writing a 30 Day Youth Expressive Writing Journal. If you know any young person you think could benefit I will be posting it up soon. 🙂
Thanks so much for reading! I am excited as I have wanted to do more to help young people with what they go through at that age. I know writing things down will help them so much, and I am excited that there are people who will be encouraging this for them. 🙂
So, I just wanted to share this and how excited I am that more people are getting to know about these simple but effective tools.
I am also developing a Youth Program to be piloted in high school soon, so that is exciting as well. 🙂
Thanks for reading! Have a great day! Suzanne
